Legendary Master of the Telecaster Arlen Roth To Headline 2018 NY Guitar Show
The Master of the Telecaster,” Mr. Arlen Roth will highlight the 2018 NY Guitar Show this April 21 & 22. Mr. Roth will be appearing on that Saturday (4/21) only! Mr. Roth will be playing in the booth (157) and signing DVD, CD’s and whatever else you bring. Look for his works in the booths for sale as well. Arlen Roth is an American guitarist /recording artist, performer, tutor and author and an icon in the industry. A Montreux Critics' Award winner for Best Instrumental Album of 1978, Roth was a regular columnist for Guitar Player mag (82’ to 92’) and performed / recorded with artists Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Danny Gatton, Albert Lee, Phoebe Snow, John Sebastian, Levon Helm and the list is endless.
Arlen has released several solo albums and performs as a solo act as well. Roth, a Telecaster enthusiast, has written the book Masters of the Telecaster, which details the techniques and licks of many famous Telecaster guitar players. As a solo artist Roth performs frequently with his daughter Lexie Roth, a recording artist, performer and songwriter in her own right. Greatly influenced by the B Bender techniques of Clarence White (Byrds) at age of 14, Roth developed a new style of doing this with fingers alone, thus innovating many string-bending styles on the guitar, simulating a "pedal steel" guitar and  in the use of "harmonics" within guitar playing and published his first book "Slide Guitar" with Oak Publications when he was just 21 years old.
Many know Mr. Roth as the master behind the movie “Crossroads,” writing and performed most, and coached all, of Ralph Macchio's guitar parts in the 1986 movie and directed many of these scenes while serving as the film's official authenticator of any musical scenes and performing of music. Entertainment Tonight did two specials on Arlen Roth's contributions to the film Crossroads.

In 1979 Roth and his late wife Deborah, started the “Hot Licks” Audio and Video label. While teaching Macchio parts for Crossroads, Arlen recorded his first videos. Six of these featured Roth as instructor, and one by friend and bass player of The Who, John Entwistle. The detailed close-ups of fretting & strumming along with other guitar techniques helped develop video lessons which was the forefront what we see on YouTube today.  Hot Licks Video documented some 150 artists in over 180 videos. Arlen has long been recognized as the very first to create video music instruction.
Aside from the Hot Licks instructional videos, Roth hosted a series of daily video lessons at Gibson.com. It’s estimated the “Father of Guitar Video Lessons” has close to 1 million students.  Known as the "Master of the Telecaster,"  Roth has stated "many of these Hot Licks artists were personal heroes of his, and it was an honor to work with them. We here at the NY Guitar Show are honored to have Mr. Roth as main part of our 2018 show and we thank him for it.

Same Great Venue For 2018!!
With the sudden growth spurt we experienced from just our "core" exhibitors that took a chance with us for our first show and I sincerely thank them for that, we've been forced to move to larger quarters. We doubled the square footage in 2013 by moving to the Freeport Recreation Center located at 130 E. Merrick Rd. in in Freeport, Long Island.

The Freeport Rec Center has hosted numerous expos in the fishing industry and I've personally held Fishing Seminars here drawing in excess of 600 people and it has plenty of room. The gymnasium is 117 x 77 with some areas 84 foot wide. We're able to ad another double row of booths in the center of the room and now have expended to 71 booths of space.

The Freeport Rec Center holds all the attributes you look for in a venue, with hotels under 5 minutes away and the Nautical Mile (Woodcleft Ave.) also 2 minutes away. The "Nautical Mile" as it's called is an actual mile of restaurants and bars on the water in Freeport. The Rec Center has an open snack bar with everything from burgers and fries to dogs and otehr munchies. However there is no beer, alcohol or smoking permitted onthe premises.

The Freeport Rec Center is located off major highways and parkways being under 2 minutes from the Meadowbrook Parkway (Exit M9) and sits on Merrick Rd with Sunrise Highway a block or two to the north. Again this location is just a 6 minute walk from major mass transportation on the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) with Nassau County bus service as well.
